Is Etobicoke in Toronto or the GTA?
Etobicoke is a former municipality that amalgamated with Toronto in 1998. So the answer here is simple: it is part of Toronto and it is also in the GTA.
In case you’re curious about all of the distinct suburbs of Toronto, they are Scarborough, North York, York, East York, Old Toronto (often called Toronto “proper”), and, of course, our favourite, Etobicoke.

Where Is Etobicoke?
Etobicoke is the borough furthest west of Toronto. Head further west, and you’ll soon find yourself in the neighbouring city of Mississauga. Head east, and you’re in Old Toronto, which includes the downtown core.
As far as locations go, Etobicoke is hard to beat in terms of convenience and amenities. Shops, restaurants, great schools, and beautiful parks are all right in the area. Plus, easy highway access and numerous GO Train stops make it easy to get anywhere.
Is Etobicoke a City?
Etobicoke is both part of and distinct from Toronto, so technically, it is not a city. Instead, you might hear people refer to it as “the city.” People from more remote locations outside the GTA do exactly that when they head into Toronto (or Etobicoke): “Get in the car, kids. We’re going to ‘the city’.”
